I have read other blogs about how great 4 year olds were. How they still adored their mom and dad and wanted to be with them but could actually do thing for themselves. Around 4 years 3 months I really started feeling this with Lucas. It is such a cool feeling to look at your child and see maturation, quick acquisition of knowledge, application of that knowledge, and kindness through their actions with no prompting from you. My sweet 4 year old is doing all of these things.
Lucas has started reading! Sight words and phonetically. He tries to sound out everything! At the park on the playground equipment he read "on" and "off", he tries to read words we see on signs, and he tries to sound out any book I try to read to him. Which makes it really hard to read books at night ;) It is so cute, I will hear "P-P-P-A-A-A" and he is trying to read a word. I have to give credit to his school but he has also become really easy to work with at home. He can really sit and pay attention. He is also doing great with his writing (all from school). See picture below. I have video of him reading but it is too big to download. I'll work on that later. Lucas also shares with Marcus very nicely (on most days) and brings me flowers from the yard (anytime he sees them). That's the kind part I was speaking of. I also heard him scolding Marcus using my words " Ok no more chances...". So cute. He seems to want to follow rules, I just need to remember to give them to him. He brushes his teeth and then lets me brush extra because he remembers the dentis telling him to let his parents help. (see a rule follower) He can pick out his clothes, dress himself, and put on his own shoes, he puts breakfast plates in the sink, and buckles the top lock of the carseat. Each stage of parenting brings new challenges from just keeping them alive to feeding their bodies, souls, and minds. I feel challenged right now to keep stimulating/challenging him. I ask myself should I add more sight words, how about math should we work more on math, is it time for a chemistry set?
(the chemestry set may be more for me, I loved mine as a kid but I was much older)
One blessing I found this year was the Fort Worth Children's museum. We bought a member ship half price and have already used it a ton. They offer great educational programs. Lucas and I had a fun Mom and son date on a rainy Saturday while daddy stayed home with a sick Marcus. We checked out the Grossology exhibit. It was all about how the human body works (burps, farts, digestion, snot etc.) Right up my alley.

A huge operation game. So fun!
This contraption made a burping noise whenever the stomach filled with water.
Lucas loved this big faucet with a snot bubble that came out of the top every few seconds.
Lucas crawled into the mouth, slid down the esophagus to the stomach, than crawled through the intestines, and came out the you know what :)
We also checked out a western exhibit.
Lucas loves this spinning thing at the museum.
Lucas figured out all on his own how to let go of this disk and have it spin on the flat surface. Some adults who tried couldn't even do it. I see an inclination for physics, I don't know I'm just saying ;)
Just a blog to remember this wonderful age for my wonderful son. I love you so!

I don't want Anna to grow up any faster than she already is, BUT I am looking forward to this stage!
Aww Karri, I loved your blog. This is going to be great for the kids when they get older too. I love the very first picture of Luki's face. He's such a beautiful child.
